Our Mission Statement

The Owensboro Art Guild cultivates a vibrant local artist community through engaging programs, demonstrations, and mutual support, fostering continuous learning and growth. We present exhibitions, engage in community service, and ignite a passion for art education while promoting deeper understanding and appreciation of visual arts.

Our Commitment to Non-Discrimination

The Owensboro Art Guild is committed to the proposition that art should be a unifying force within the community. The Owensboro Art Guild does not discriminate in its membership, board appointments or programming in respect to race, religion, gender or gender identification, age, disability or national origin.

A Little History

Owensboro Art Guild was formed in 1961/1962 by a few area artists and educators when they decided to meet as a group to support each other and hold a juried art show. In 1963 the Juried Exhibition was held in a vacant house on Griffith Avenue making it the oldest continuously running show of its kind in Kentucky. The Art Guild members decided to incorporate as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1969. Founding directors on the articles of incorporation were: Faith Harvey, Wilda Ebling, Lois Nease, Laura Threlkeld, Margaret Ross and Maxine Baltzer. While we are not the oldest art guild in Kentucky, we are the Commonwealth’s oldest continuously operating visual arts organization and we are solely operated by volunteers. Now over 63 years later, membership numbers continue to remain active with 65 members today of varying experience and levels of skill.

Jamie Kniffen, Vice President

vp@owensboroartguild.org

Jamie was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her parents moved the family to Owensboro, Kentucky in 1976. There, Jamie finished high school and attended Western Kentucky University where she majored in fine art. After graduating college she moved to Connecticut where her artistic talent unexpectedly fell into the floral industry. After 30 years as a floral and event designer, Jamie decided to put away her knife and apron for paint brushes and canvases. During those 30 years she moved back to Indianapolis and is now residing again in Kentucky. Jamie has participated in juried art shows and festivals. Her art has been sold all across the country.

Jamie’s artistic focus is mainly acrylic painting. Her love of flowers and nature are the main subjects for her paintings. But she is always branching out to try something new and colorful.
